FAQ
❤️ ABOUT THE CARDS
What ages are Little Moments, Big Feelings cards for?
Little Moments, Big Feelings was created with young children in mind, especially ages 3–7. Every child develops differently, though, and the cards can also be a helpful conversation tool for older children who benefit from visual prompts when talking about emotions.
What emotions are included in the deck?
Each Little Moments, Big Feelings deck includes 18 different emotions, giving children a wide range of feelings to recognize, explore, and talk about—from everyday emotions to feelings that can sometimes be harder to name.
The deck includes Happy, Sad, Angry, Scared, Surprised, Frustrated, Nervous, Embarrassed, Proud, Calm, Confident, Curious, and six additional emotions represented through photographs of real children.
Why does LMBF use photographs of real children?
Children experience emotions on real faces every day. Little Moments, Big Feelings uses photographs of children rather than cartoons or illustrated expressions to give kids an opportunity to notice facial expressions, talk about what they see, and connect those observations to feelings they recognize in themselves and others.
What comes with the deck?
Each Little Moments, Big Feelings deck includes 18 emotion cards featuring photographs of real children, along with a guide designed to help adults start simple, meaningful conversations about feelings.
Why are the photographs black and white?
The black-and-white photography keeps the focus on the child's face and expression by reducing distracting colors and background details. It also gives Little Moments, Big Feelings its distinctive, timeless photographic style.
💬 USING LITTLE MOMENTS, BIG FEELINGS
How do I use the cards with my child?
There isn't one “right” way to use them. Choose a card and ask your child what they notice. What might this child be feeling? What makes them think that? Have they ever felt that way?
You can explore one card, compare several feelings, act out expressions, tell stories, or simply leave the cards somewhere accessible for conversations when feelings come up naturally.
Do we need to use all 18 cards at once?
Not at all! Sometimes one card is enough. Follow your child's interest and attention span. A short conversation about one feeling can be more meaningful than trying to work through the entire deck at once.
What if my child doesn't want to talk about a feeling?
That's okay. Little Moments, Big Feelings isn't about forcing a conversation or finding the “right” answer. A child can look, point, listen, or simply move on to another card. The cards are an invitation to explore feelings when your child is ready.
Can teachers use Little Moments, Big Feelings in the classroom?
Absolutely. The cards can be incorporated into morning meetings, social-emotional learning activities, small groups, classroom calm-down spaces, read-aloud discussions, or everyday conversations when feelings arise.
Can therapists, counselors, and other professionals use the cards?
Little Moments, Big Feelings can be used as a visual conversation tool by educators and professionals who work with children. The cards are an educational resource and are not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace professional mental health care.
